She was born on November 26, 1952 in Anaconda, Montana. She attended St Joseph’s Grade School and graduated from Anaconda Central High School. She attended the University of Great Falls.
The summer before her senior year, Laurie took a trip to Oregon where her aunt set her up on a blind date with “some guy” from Portland. She reluctantly went. That guy was Alan Johnson who ended up being her soul mate and the absolute love of her life.
She eventually left her Montana roots and transferred to the University of Oregon for her senior year where she graduated with a bachelor’s degree. Laurie and Alan were married in 1977 at St. John Fisher Catholic Church in Portland.
They raised their girls in the Garden Home area in Portland, attended Beaverton Foursquare Church and were members of the Multnomah Athletic Club. Laurie spent most of her career in social services working for the State of Oregon, Metro Child Care Resource and Referral and the Red Cross.
In 2001, she moved to Charbonneau where she spent the next twenty-one years. Laurie ran several Portland marathons and was an avid gardener. She was wholeheartedly dedicated to her daughters and grandchildren. She had a contagious personality and had the ability to bring a smile on even a stranger’s face. Laurie loved fiercely and left no doubt that her family was the light of her life.
She is proceeded in death by her husband of over twenty years, (Alan Johnson), her father (Ed McGreevey) and her two brothers Pat and Mark McGreevey. She is survived by her mother, Dollie Kelly, her two daughter’s Michelle (Nathan) Whitney and Jenny (Josh) Vanlue, four grandchildren, her sister Leslie (Tom) Murphy and her two brothers Greg (Tracey) and Eddie (Brenda) McGreevey.
Laurie’s Celebration of Life will be held on August 21, 2022 at Riverview Restaurant in Troutdale, OR at 1pm.
