Karen lived a life of service after graduating from Beaverton High School in 1964. She achieved a Licensed Practical Nurse certification in 1968 and advanced to a Registered Nurse certification in 1979. She was a registered nurse at Portland Legacy Good Samaritan hospital for 38 years.
After retirement as a Registered Nurse, Karen continued her service by volunteering weekly at the blood donation center and participating in several Portland area Red Cross Blood Drives.
Early in her life, she enjoyed sports, especially snow skiing and tennis. She was a longtime member of the MAC club. She was devoted to Jazzercise, and her cats, Sydney and Priscilla, were a large part of her life. She also enjoyed trips to Seaside, Oregon, Rhode Island, and New York.
Karen is survived by her sister, Roiann (Walter) Santos, her brother, Henry Brown, three nephews, David, Jason, and Marcus Prouty, five grand-nieces, Amanda, Katherine, Elizabeth, Makena, and Victoria Prouty, and her very good friend and former husband, Robert S. Bloom. She will also be remembered by her large circle of friends who brought her joy.
