He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II & at the Chosin Reservoir in Korea.
After 40 years of Service at Safeway, he retired as a truck driver & shop steward.
In his leisure time John enjoyed hunting, fishing and conversations surrounding his family, politics and current events. He was full of southern wit & wisdom. He never said goodbye, he just said, "so long."
John was born in Valiant, Oklahoma. He had 3 siblings; Rip, Clarice and Sammy Kay. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Chaney of Portland, Or. (husband Dennis & children, Christina & John); daughter, Cindy Nelson of Palmer, Alaska (husband George); sister, Sammy Kay Collins of Medford, Or. (children, Rob & Deborah); beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Private family services will be held at Willamette National Cemetery.
