Joan Edith Daniels Bruechert Johansson was born in the Cascade foothills above Molalla Oregon. Her parents were Jesse Leman Daniels and Venita Pearl Gregory Daniels. Joan was born into a family of three sisters and one brother, Ray (Jesse Ray) Daniels, Colleen Louise Evans, Nita Bernice Kimmel, and Audrey Ann Robertson. She attended Mulino Grade School becoming Valedictorian of her class. Joan graduated in 1951 from Molalla Union High where she earned a two-year scholarship to Multnomah Jr. College in downtown Portland.
Joan began a career at Consolidated Freightways as a rate auditor in 1952 while continuing night school in Business Administration. She met her future husband Carl Eugene Bruechert while attending Multnomah Jr. College. They were married in 1954 in Mulino. They moved to Beaverton in 1955. He predeceased her in April 1967.
After being single for five years, her prayers were answered when she met Martin Lennart Johansson. They were married in 1971. She retired from Consolidated Freightways in 1974 just after the birth of her son Kristian Daniel Johansson in 1973. Joan returned to school and became a real estate agent from 1978-1984, passing the one-day test on her first try! When the real estate market tanked, Joan worked at Tektronix in accounts payable for over 15 years. She retired in 1998.
Joan was active with the Sweet Adelines singing choir for many years, as well as with various local Scandinavian clubs alongside Martin.
Martin and Joan moved to Tigard from their Aloha, Oregon home in 1976. Joan and Martin loved to travel, enjoying trips throughout the Northwest, California, Canada, Hawaii, and Scandinavia. Many of their trips were to visit family and friends, they also enjoyed hosting distant families at their home. Martin passed away in 2008.
Survivors include son, Kristian Johansson; daughter Ena Johansson (Ronald Robertson); son, Eric Johansson (Anastasia); granddaughter, Geneva Neubauer; granddaughter, April Neubauer (Paul Gran); and great-grandson Walter Gran. She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Joan passed away peacefully in the early hours of Labor Day. Predeceased by her brother and three sisters.
