After graduating from Beaverton High School in 1957, she joined the work force and eventually settled down and raised a family. Wanting a better life for her and her children, she returned to school and went on to become one of the first women to earn an Engineering degree from Portland Community College in 1978.
Jeanne spent the next 18 years committed to a cleaner Tualatin River, while working at the Unified Sewerage Agency in Hillsboro, before retiring in 1996.
Once retired, she and her husband Lance spent as much time as they could square dancing, traveling and visiting friends, living in Oregon during the good weather months and "snowbirding" in Yuma, Arizona during the winter months. Together they saw Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Singapore, Canada, Mexico and most of the U.S. including Alaska and Hawaii, oftentimes attending square dancing events.
Jeanne was a very competitive spirit. She excelled as a world-class level swimmer in her youth; she won pickleball trophies in the Senior Olympics and enjoyed regular games of cribbage, pinochle and other games with friends and family.
Jeanne, age 80, passed away peacefully on November 2nd, 2019 at St. Vincent Hospital, surrounded by her adoring family.
Jeanne is survived by her five children, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren, and was preceded in death by her husband, Lance Watterberg, who passed on April 25th, 2018.
A memorial service in her honor will be held on Saturday, November 23rd, 2019, at 1pm at Skyline Memorial Gardens, 4101 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland OR 97229
