Born August 17, 1940, in Portland, OR. Gerry was the 6th child born to Edward Sr. and Marcelene Caldwell.
Gerry attended Holladay Grade School, Washington High School, and Clark College. After leaving Clark College, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served 4 years on Active Duty Primarily in the Far East, (Japan & Korea). After a 14-year absence from the U. S. Army, he enlisted in the U. S. Army Reserve, on a “Try One Contract”, the one year turned into 20 years, and he retired from the Army in 1997, as a Master Sergeant.
He went to work for First National Bank of Oregon, where he worked from 1964 until 1978, he then worked for First State Bank of Oregon from 1979 until 1990. He went on to work for the Dept of HUD & Bonneville Power Administration. he transferred to Seattle with the Department of Housing and Urban Development. He then went to work at Bonneville Power Administration, as a Land Manager, where he worked for 5 years before retiring in 1995. He retired from the Army in 1997. In addition to the Army, he was also a member of the Multnomah County Sheriff Reserve, where he served as a reserve Deputy Sheriff for 4 years.
Gerry was in several service clubs, including Portland Lloyd Lions Club, Albina Rotary (Charter Member),
Employer Support of The Guard and Reserve (ESGR), Oregon State Police & Portland Police Bureau, (Disabled Parking Enforcement Volunteer), Vestry of St Philip the Deacon Episcopal Church, The American Legion (Post 98). He had a love for volunteering and serving in the community.
Gerry was a lover of jazz, and if there was good music near, he would be there. With the number of nephews and nieces, and adopted nieces & nephews, he was known to many as Uncle G, Triple G, and just plain Uncle.
Gerry is preceded in death by his parents Edward Sr. and Marcelene, his siblings Alfred, Delores, Edward, Rebecca, and his second wife Leanna Rolle-Caldwell. He is survived by his daughters Stacey (Robert) Roberts and Cathleen (Terrance) Deary; four grandchildren, Eric, Nathan, Jillian, and Kell; sister Alcena Boozer; four generations of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 17th, at St. Philip the Deacon Episcopal Church (120 NE Knott Street, Portland, OR). Interment will be at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd. Happy Valley, OR at 1:00 pm
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in the name of Gerald Caldwell, to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland, Oregon.
