The sunshine shone on Gary as he peacefully passed away surrounded by his wife, son, and close family on December 24th at OHSU in Portland. He was 61 years old/young. Gary Dennis “Daddo”, “Gee Gee”, “Yes Sir”, “Grumpa”, “GarBear” Shearer was born on July 26, 1950 in Portland, Oregon to Seth & Shirley Browne Shearer. Gary attended David Douglas High School in Portland and married Heather McGregor, with whom they had one son, Gary Kurt, his father’s pride and joy.
Gary pursued law enforcement for Gresham before moving to a twenty plus year career with Sears in the loss prevention department. While at Sears, Gary mentored many young lives with encouragement towards careers in law enforcement, and was also passionate about positively influencing wayward individuals at his job and beyond. While with Sears, Gary loved to help open new stores in Montana, Clackamas, and Roseburg-almost as much as he enjoyed taking down bad guys.
In 1995 Gary married Judy Wallace-Pitts in Lahaina, Maui. Together they committed their lives to raising their children. In 1997 the family relocated to Roseburg, purchasing the Lone Pine Pet Resort, following their combined dreams of owning a business and their love of animals. This change in lifestyle allowed Gary and Judy to enjoy gardening, wine, cooking, landscaping, fishing, camping, traveling, and sunshine.
Gary is survived by his wife Judy; son Gary K. Shearer, his wife Jodi, and their children Sammantha, Kali, & Kurt; son Andrew Pitts, his wife Kim, and their children Rachael & Alora; son Christopher Pitts; daughter Jennifer Redshaw, her husband Darren, and their daughter Gwenevere; brother Randy Shearer, his wife Patti, and their children Ashley & Jeremy; nephew Aaron Rose and his son Freedom; and his lifelong friend, Russ German.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 promptly at 2:00pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a graveside committal service at 3:00pm at Lincoln Memorial Park. Hawaiian or tropical attire is encouraged, but not required.
Gary would appreciate any creative charitable contributions to assist those in need of work.
Arrangements under the direction of Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Portland, OR.
