beloved husband Lee. Eleanor was born and raised in Portland, Ore. She was the fourth
of five children born to Jose and Carmen Flores and maintained a close bond with her siblings throughout their lives. As a young girl growing up, she and her family survived the Vanport flood
and relocated to North Portland. Her family was again displaced as the new freeway was built and eventually settled in the Kenton neighborhood. Eleanor met Lee Gibby at a community dance and
in 1963 they were married. They raised four children together and were married for 57 years before Lee’s passing in late 2020. Eleanor cared deeply for her family and was always eager to share news of
her children’s lives and show off photos of her 19 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a strong network of lifelong friends in Portland and in Camas, where she and Lee spent their later years in life. She loved playing pinochle and bunco, making trips to the casino, and creating hand-made quilts for family and
friends. She was a lover of music that evoked emotion, particularly mariachi, and of gathering with family every holiday season to make enchiladas or tamales. She was loyal, generous, and had a true knack for “going big” to make someone feel special.
She is survived by her brothers, Roberto Flores and David Flores; daughters, Alisa Lafontaine, Krista (Phil) Wuest, and Meagan (Adam) Neff; son, Joel Gibby; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee; parents, Angel Jose and Carmen Flores; sister, Josefina Guillen; and brother, Miguel Flores.
A Catholic funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 26, 2021, at St. Andrew Church, 806 N.E. Alberta St., Portland. An outdoor, heated reception to honor the lives of both Eleanor and
Lee will be held at 1 p.m., at the HiTop Tavern, 5015 N.E. Fremont St., Portland.
