David was born and grew up in Bakersfield, California. From a very young age some of his favorite activities were exploring science and chemistry, hunting for minerals and fossils with his father, playing tennis and swimming. David’s often said “You earn your way through life and if you have fun along the way, well I guess that’s okay”. David, who was never one to shy away from work or rallying others to get something done, passed away August 7, 2016. He leaves behind many causes and clever puns. David was a leader that picked up a hammer and signs to let others know something was happening or needed to happen. His passionate spirit lead many battles to preserve neighborhoods, the environment and ways of life. He believed that a leader was the lead worker and lived by those words every day. He was a one of a kind man who cast a giant shadow that sheltered many and inspired more. David met the love of his life, Lorna in 1980. Together they enjoyed a blended family and plenty of awareness. David earned a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology with a minor in Chemistry from Fresno State College. Positions he served included District Sanitarian for the Madera, California Health Department; County Sanitarian for Clatsop County Health Department; Program Administrator, Investigation and Compliance Division, Oregon Department of Environmental Quality; Owner, Computext; and Food Safety Specialist/ Field Automation Specialist, Oregon Department of Agriculture. He was a man of many talents who could fix most anything around the house. He never lost his sense of humor or drive, a quick pun or joke could always be expected.
