David Wey Fong was born on May 15, 1951 in Nampa, Idaho to Frank and Helen Fong. He passed away on July 19, 2023 in Portland, Oregon. David attended Benson High School in Portland and went on to graduate from Oregon State University.
He worked at PacifiCorp for over 40 years. David started in the mail room and worked his way up, eventually working as an electrical engineer. At PacifiCorp, David made lifelong friendships with a lot of his colleagues; some he even got to see during his last days.
For some time, David attended the Chinese Baptist Church in SE Portland. David had an appreciation for dogs; which he kept as pets throughout his life. When it was time to dine, David loved Chinese food and ice cream! He enjoyed hunting and fishing, target shooting, and spending time at the shooting range. He was a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), so his family asks that if anyone wishes to make a donation in David's name, they may donate to the NRA. https://donate.nra.org/donate
David was known for his fun-loving, joking nature. He would joke with family, caregivers, servers- just about anyone you put him in front of! David cared deeply about many of the people he came across in his life; often showing them generosity.
David is survived by his brother, Alan Fong of La Grande, Oregon.
A memorial dinner will be hosted on Sunday, September 3, 2023 at Happy Dragon Restaurant, 707 NE 82nd Ave., Portland, OR 97220 at 5:30 pm. Yes replies to [email protected] are important, by Sunday, 8/27/23.
