Darryl S. Gordon

Darryl was born in Boise, Idaho to Stanley and Evelyn Gordon and older brother Richard. His family later moved to Portland, OR where he graduated from Grant High school and Lewis & Clark College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. In 1959 he married Elizabeth Zink and began a teaching career at Hamlin Jr. High/Middle School that lasted 30 years. During that time he spent a summer studying Spanish and linguistics in Quito, Ecuador, and received a Masters degree in Spanish from the University of Oregon. He and Elizabeth had three children.

After retiring from teaching Darryl sold men’s furnishings at the Beaverton and Boise Emporium Department Stores, and volunteered at Portland’s St. Vincent Hospital and Medical Teams International in Tigard. He loved to be busy.

Darryl and Elizabeth have been blessed with 8 grandsons and 2 granddaughters.

He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, daughter Heather Ventrella and son-in-law Jeff Ventrella and children: Jefferson, Chandler, Kirklan, Jackson and McKenzie of Mesa, AZ, daughter Heidi Ball and son-in-law Scott Ball and children: Laurel, David and Morgan of Tigard, OR, son Peter Gordon and daughter-in-law Amy and children: Christopher and Bryce of Beaverton, OR, sister-in-law Miriam Bertuleit, brother and sister-in-law Gordon and Judy Moeckli, many nieces and nephews and many friends.

Darryl became a Christian while at Lewis & Clark. We are confident he is now rejoicing with the Lord and Savior he loved.

Service on Saturday, October 11, 2014 at 2:00pm at Westside Christian High School, 8200 SW Pfaffle St. Tigard, OR 97223
