Darrell Raymond Goodwin was born in Portland, OR to his parents Harry Raymond Goodwin and Barbara Goodwin. Darrell attended Gresham High School and went on to serve in the United States Army and Army Reserves as a Military Police Officer. Darrell worked as a truck driver for multiple companies throughout his life.
He loved fishing for trout and Trilium Lake was his favorite spot. He would often grab a cooler, sandwiches and cold beer and say “Let’s go fishing!” He also watched a lot of baseball and “my oh my” he was a HUGE Mariners fan. He was active in the senior softball league and his team won medals for their accomplishments.
Darrell was a very kind person who was positive, optimistic and caring towards others. As he walked out on the field before each game, he could be heard saying “Let’s help each other.” Darrell was the type of person who was very popular and knew someone everywhere he went. He was beloved by the LVAD (Left Ventricle Assist Device) team and many medical personnel who cared for him and performed the life saving heart surgery that gave him nearly eight extra years of life. Darrell will always be remembered through the many stories and memories he shared with his friends and family.
Darrell is survived by his wife, Judi Goodwin, son Rick Goodwin, daughter Jody Dawes, son Randy Goodwin, sister Carolyn Martin, numerous grand and great grandchildren, as well as stepdaughters, Julie, Kari, Laurie, Michelle and Nicole.
If life is a game of baseball, Darrell hit a home run. And as the late, great Dave Niehaus often said, “Fly, fly away.”
A special thanks to the Providence Hospice Team for their loving guidance and care during Darrell's final moments with our family.
