I can't begin to imagine what you all must be feeling right now, but I offer my most heartfelt sympathies, however inadequate.  Cherish your memories and know that one day your grief will allow joy to shine through again.  Be gentle with yourselves and take care of each other.

What a wonderful guy Chris was. I knew him as Topher back at Purdue. We became fast friends at our job, considering he was so easy to get along with. We would listen to Wilco, watch old Zelda TV show clips, and make jokes about everything. I enjoyed playing pool with him and just being around him in general. I last saw Chris in Portland about 5 years ago when I went to visit a friend. We easily fell into our old rhythms when we were around each other. A funny and lighthearted man. I am heartbroken for your family. I will miss him so much as I'm sure many others will as well. I hope you all will find some peace and contentment in knowing that he was loved by so many. Chris was a great guy and one of my closest friends my sophomore year at Purdue. I remember the nights I’d visit his and his roommate Aaron’s dorm room, and just listen to music like Third Eye Blind and Something Corporate, watch a David Lynch flick, or peer over his computer to see the latest cartoons on Homestar Runner.

Even when I transferred away, we maintained our friendship, and Chris became the inspiration for the main character of my college newspaper comic strip. He even was a contributor to a humor and music blog I ran, and he wrote this in May 2003:

“The only thing worth your concentration is the future. Learn from the past, but don't dwell on it, because you will miss everything coming at you with your head turned around like that. As far as the present is concerned, it's over as soon as you think about it, so just react. However, don't make big plans too far in the future... I guess I am saying, don't have a plan for life unless you have a million back-up plans.”

Chris was so down-to-earth and had so much wit, and every life he has touched made each person for the better.
