Cheryl Maureen Luff-Delaney 48
Our beloved daughter, Cheryl Maureen, aka “Nana” was born September 3, 1965 in St. Helens, Oregon. She attended McBride Grade School, took tap dancing classes from Elaine Lease. Cheryl Graduated from St. Helens High School in 1983. During that time, she participated on a cheerleading squad.
She was hired by Consolidated Freightways in 1986. She worked there 15 years, until Consolidated filed for bankruptcy in 2001.
The birth of a child adds great joy to one’s life. Rachael, her beloved daughter, was that great Joy, and she was born on April 2, 1989.
Cheryl purchased her first home in St. Helens in 1990.
She married Michael Delaney in June 1997 and moved to Portland. They divorced a year later.
Cheryl Attended Apollo College in December of 2002. She completed her externship at Gateway Care & Retirement center. She graduated as a Medical Administration Assistant with a 4.0 GPA.
She was hired by Federal Public Defenders, District of Oregon as an Assistant Financial Administrator in 2003, where she has worked for the last eleven years. She loved her job, even though it was very demanding. She handled challenging and complex tasks and since she was skilled at organization, it was just fun for her. She made lots of friends, but did not appreciate any slacking of duties and responsibilities. Ask anyone there, they would tell you, Cheryl worked the hardest.
Her dogs, Shelby and Precious, were a big part of her life.
Being physically active and doing things like hiking in the Gorge brought Cheryl great enjoyment.
Cheryl loved her home and took pride in redecorating. She had just completed stripping the kitchen wallpaper that she had hated for the last 17 years. She hung new curtains and was pleased with the new modern look. She loved working in her yard and was always improving on its function and appearance. With the help of her family, she placed retaining blocks around several large trees in her back yard and planted perennials. She had the exterior painted a few years ago, after replacing all of the windows. Hers was the best looking house on the block. During this time, she was blessed with a grandchild, Graysen. She and Graysen bonded from the very moment he was born. She adored him. She enrolled him in Puddle Town Talent Agency, thinking that with his good looks, he might enjoy a career in modeling and possibly earn money toward his education. She took Graysen to Portland Adventist pre-school three days a week this last winter, as his mother, Rachael had to be at work at Farmington Square at the crack-of-dawn. If one ever visited Cheryl’s home, one would notice the walls are covered with their photos. She loved Graysen and looked forward to spending time with him. It was always an adventure.
Why did God call her home? Her family is devastated by the loss. Why now when she is so needed?
Cheryl is survived by her parents Richard and Joan Luff; daughter, Rachael Wasteney; grandson, Graysen Wasteney; sister, Carolyn Luff; brother, Richard Luff, Jr.; Brother Daniel Luff; nieces, Zarah Luff, Jennifer Luff, Amanda Eubanks (daughter, Mackenzie), and Natasha Luff; and nephews, Jason and Anthony Luff.
