Charlotte Eunice Mae Oredson was born in Minneapolis, the oldest of three children. Her fondest memories of her childhood were her father’s drug store where she worked from the age of 12 through one year of college, and Powder Horn Park across the street from their home. There she played year round but especially loved ice skating in winter on the frozen lake to the piped-in music. In high school she was a member of the National Honor Society and was active in many organizations. She learned to play the piano at age 7, performed in many recitals, and loved to play tennis.
In 1939 Charlotte married Ivan Sletta and she moved to the tiny town of LaSalle, MN where Ivan managed the creamery. In 1945 they moved to Portland where Ivan was office manager for a friend’s construction company, and in 1954 he started his own lathing and plastering company. At the beginning the office was in their basement, Charlotte did the bookkeeping and payroll.
They shared a happy, active life together, traveled extensively and were blessed with many friends. Charlotte especially enjoyed playing golf and tennis, gardening, reading and taking classes. She generously made donations over the years to many charities, enjoyed doing volunteer work at St. Vincent Hospital and for many years was very involved with The Northwest Pilot Project.
Ivan and Charlotte were very proud of their Scandinavian heritage and their family enjoyed traditional Christmas Eve dinners at their home.
Ivan passed away in 2000, they had been married for 61 years. Charlotte suffered a stroke in 2003 and for 8½ has resided at West Hills Health and Rehab. There she participated in the many activities, loved interacting with the staff and received wonderful care for which her family is so grateful.
A memorial service will be held after Christmas.
Charlotte is survived by her son Ronald Sletta (Carole), daughter Kathryn Hickey, sister Helen Marie Mahle, brother Vincent Oredson (Dorothy), grandson Michael Sletta and nieces and nephews.
In Charlotte’s memory donations can be made to the Northwest Pilot Project
