The family moved to Portland when Chuck was young. He graduated from David Douglas High School. Chuck worked for Boeing as a machinist, retiring with 38 years of service. He was a very active member of International Associations of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 63. Through his work and participation with the union Chuck was able to travel all over the country.
He was very much a people person and a visitor. He kept life interesting with his jokes and sense of humor (embarrassing the kids occasionally). He loved to fish, whether it was on the river or deep-sea, camp and go boating. Whether it was working on them in his younger years, collecting models, or participating in or going to shows, Chuck loved old cars. In the past he enjoyed Corvettes but most recently was a ’66 Chevelle. Once the children were grown he acquired his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
He will be missed by his wife of 35 years, Penny; daughter, Cathy Murdza; step-son, Mark Courtney; brothers, Jim Drake and Layne Powell; sister, Carol Powell; grandson, Cooper Murdza; and niece, Jessica Santmyer.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Saturday, December 28, 2013 at Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home. He will be privately laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens.
