Charles grew up near small towns in Arkansas and quickly decided he did not want to be a farmer.
In the 1950's he moved to Tillamook, OR for 2 years to work for an older brother at a service station.
In May of 1952 Charles went back to McCrory, Arkansas and married Frances (Pulley) Dix after having courted by letters for 3 years.
IN June of 1952 Charles and Frances moved to Portland, OR where they raised 3 children: Michael Dix, Pamela Baker and Steven Dix. They have been married for 70 years.
At age 27 (1956), Charles began his apprenticeship to become a journeyman plumber. He successfully completed his education and certification at age 32 (1961).
Moving to Prineville, OR in 1978 to begin his own plumbing shop, Charles retired at age 62 by handing over his thriving plumbing business to his son, Steve. Charles was widely respected for his knowledge and expertise by customers and peers alike.
Charles enjoyed many hobbies: hunting, fishing, golf, RV'ing, camping, and finding arrowheads.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother, 7 siblings, and 2 grandsons.
He is survived by his wife, Frances, 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren, 1 brother, and nieces and nephews.
