Charles (Chuck) Howe Andrews of Beaverton, Oregon passed from this life into eternal life of natural causes on Thursday, Nov. 30th, 2023 at the age of 89. He was born to parents Emmett Floyd Andrews and Frances May (Howe) Andrews of Auburn, Nebraska on Christmas Day, December 25, 1933.
His parents relocated from Nebraska to Los Angeles, California when Chuck was still a toddler, and that is where he grew up. He attended Washington High School in Los Angeles, Calif. and furthered his education at the University of Southern California, where he met his future wife Geraldine (Geri) Butera, graduating in the class of 1956. He remained a loyal USC fan all his life, cheering on nearly 70 seasons of Trojan football and basketball. Upon graduation, Chuck worked as an accountant for various companies including Union Oil, Sun Litho of Van Nuys, CA, and The Independent Journal of Santa Monica, CA.
Chuck and his wife Geri were married on Sept. 11, 1954 at the Ambassador Hotel in Los Angeles, CA. The young couple welcomed three children (a son and two daughters) in rapid succession in years 1955, 56 and 58. Chuck was a hardworking and faithful provider for his family. Canoga Park (now West Hills) Calif. became the primary hometown for the Andrews family. Chuck was very much involved as a dad in the lives of his children, including coaching his son's little league, playing tennis with his oldest daughter (she always knew he was better at it than she was), teaching all his children how to swim, helping with math homework, and creating savory family memories through his culinary skills at the backyard grill.
Chuck had a gift to make a friend out of a complete stranger, to lift the spirits of someone in need, to come to the aid of anyone who needed help, and he considered the well-being of others before thinking of himself. He loved to laugh and had an inexhaustible supply of one-liners that amused all within earshot. He loved animals (dogs being a favorite), the beach, and a good home-cooked meal.
The most important fact about Chuck is that he loved and trusted his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, the One he came to lean upon most earnestly in his last days. The Lord tenderly took Chuck's hand and ushered him into His eternal Kingdom in complete peace. Family and friends are grateful to God for the blessing of this man's life.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 69 years, Geraldine (Butera) Andrews, son Steven Wayne Andrews and his wife Melanie, daughter Charlene Gale (Andrews) Olexiewicz and her husband Stan, and daughter Kathryn Marie (Andrews) Bogle and her husband Paul. Surviving grandchildren include Anthony, Erin, Shannon, Michael, Tony and step-granddaughter Danielle (Olexiewicz). Great-grandchildren include Christopher, Tyler, Adeline, Eloise, Lydia, Kasper, Oliver, as well as great step-grandsons Michael and Dominic.
Services will be held on Monday, Dec. 11, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Finley Sunset Hills Memorial Park, 6801 SW Sunset Hwy, Portland, OR 97225. Please plan on arriving 15 minutes early to allow time to meet at the funeral home and drive in procession to the mausoleum.
