Carol Jean Ward

Carol Jean was a graduate of Grant High School. She had three children – Tracey Jackson (who preceded Carol in death in 2002), Brian Jackson, and Gail Hickman. She married her soulmate David Ward, and they enjoyed many years together until his passing in 2009.

Carol Jean worked for many years as a teacher’s aide with Portland School District. She was a lover of music, having played banjo and violin herself, and often attended the symphony. As a young woman, she was a frequent competitor at roller dancing events in Oaks Park. She also enjoyed her garden and flowers, quilting, camping, trips to Ashland for theater with her daughter Gail. After retirement, she and her soulmate traveled in their RV all over the U.S. Carol Jean was also a dedicated volunteer at her church, and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She will be missed and remembered by all who loved her.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, July 29, 2023 at 2:00 pm at Rivercrest Community Church, 3201 NE 148th Avenue in Portland. The family would be grateful for donations in Carol’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals.
