Carl had a wonderful adventurous life. He was an excellent mechanic at an early age and had a stock car. He had his own live bait business and loved digging for wigglers, a bait used for catching fish in the Muskegon River. He loved hunting and fishing and had fishing boats in Oregon and Washington.
Carl and his wife, Lois, married in 1958. He is survived by Lois; a daughter Teresa Slette of Tucson, Arizona; and a son Troy Gruenberg of Terrebonne, Oregon, as well as Troy's wife Shawna, and three granddaughters.
In 1959 Carl went to work for Capital Airlines in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He worked for Capital until they merged with United Airlines in 1961. As a result of the merger, Carl and his family moved to Portland, Oregon, where he remained the rest of his life.
Another adventure began when he bought a backhoe excavator in the 1980s. He dug water and sewer lines as well as basements and other excavations. He was an expert backhoe operator who could pick up a dime off the ground with his bucket.
Carl and Lois traveled a lot and spent winters in Tucson, Arizona. They loved attending The University of Arizona girls softball games, visiting Tombstone, Arizona, and exploring mining shafts.
A service will be held later in the spring or early summer. His cremains will be placed in Croton Township Cemetery in Newaygo County, Michigan.
