Alfonso Cruz Arboleda Jr., of Portland, Oregon went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 27, 2024 less than a week after his 94th birthday. He was born on May 21, 1930 to parents Alfonso Sr. and Paz Arboleda in Santa Cruz, Philippines.
He was a beloved husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather and great grandfather, the Arboleda family’s rock and unifier.
Al lovingly shared his life with his late first wife Gregoria and late second wife Dorothy.
He is survived by 9 of his 10 children: Aleli (Tim); Aida (Jaime); Alfonzo "JoJo" III (Thelma); Bienvenido "Picket"; Alexander (Beth) Benjamin (Jane); Mary Ann (Robert); Robert (Lenny); and Clarissa.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Beatriz.
His absence will be felt deeply by many of his grandchildren: Jenny, Tiffany, Michael, Jim, Chris, Juan Carlo, Jerome, Katrina, Danica, Kimberly, Justin, Milo, Andy, Isabela, Chloe, Celine, Jacques and Cassie, and Great grandchildren: Jophiel, Chammy, Gabby, Rowan, Magnus, Ava, Avery, Cece, Sienna.
Al excelled academically at the University of Santo Tomas, where he earned a degree in Chemical Engineering. His career took him around the globe as an executive for Bataan Refinery Corporation, now known as the Philippine National Oil Company and allowed him to reside in New York, Banda Aceh Indonesia and Bintulu Malaysia.
An avid golfer, he served as president of the BRC golf club and relished hosting gatherings with loved ones. He prioritized his children's education, even presiding over the school board in Bataan. Known for his impeccable style, Al always took pride in his appearance.
A voracious reader, Al found solace in scientific journals and biographies, actively participating in the book club at his church. His deep faith led him to serve as a deacon for many years, recently finding a community at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Al's affable nature endeared him to all he met, effortlessly striking up conversations. Above all, family was paramount to him, and his passing leaves a profound void in our hearts.
We love you, dear Dad, grandpa, and great grandpa.
