Rosie was born in Portland, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Smith Russo. Rosie went to Portland Schools, and was a long time resident of the Riverton area, where she raised 3 boys, Jeff & Greg Haskell and Kevin Whitman. In addition to being a wonderful mother to her own children, she was also considered the “neighborhood Mom”, always providing amazing food, and a safe place to stay or visit.
Rosie enjoyed cooking, making crafts, and most importantly making people laugh. She was always in demand by her family, to deliver absolutely hilarious roasts, jokes and impressions. Making people belly laugh, to the point of crying, while seated around Nannie’s table, was something that the family will forever cherish.
Rosie was a dedicated employee of BJ’s Wholesale club for many years, where she was appreciated by many co-workers and regular customers.
Rosie is survived by her sons, Jeff Haskell & his wife Bonnie of Standish, Greg Haskell and his wife Debbie of Scarborough, Kevin Whitman and his partner, Donna Delgizzi of Portland, her beloved grandchildren, Airman Zackery Haskell and his wife Alexis of Fairbanks, Alaska, Ashley Haskell and her partner Josh Sinclair of Standish, Colby Haskell of Saco, Grace Haskell of Standish and great-grandchildren Scarlett, Maddox and Archie Sinclair. Her surviving siblings include Sandra Aceto of Scarborough, Carol and Rick Miles of Portland, Greg and Rhonda Russo of Portland, Mary and Mike Lawry of Texas, Cynthia Simmons of Portland, Brenda Russo of South Portland, numerous cherished nieces and nephews, as well as many close, lifelong friends.
Rosie was predeceased by her parents James and Elizabeth Russo of Portland, her sister Catherine Russo of Portland, and late husband Mike Whitman of Portland.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 4-7 PM at Jones, Rich and Barnes Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland.
