Rose Mae Roberts Elliott, age 91, died Sept 3, 2015 in Mitchelleville, Maryland.
Rose was born May 25, 1924 in Old Orchard Beach , Maine. She was the daughter of the late Mabel Forrester Roberts and Joe Nathan Roberts.
After graduation from Old Orchard Beach High School just prior to the United State’s entry into World War II, she moved to Boston and went to work as a clerk typist in government service. Later after moving to New York City she went to work for Sheltering Arms Child Adoption Agency.
She was an accomplished seamstress and an amateur artist working in oils and acrylics. After sending both of her children to college she went back to college herself, and graduated from Queens College in 1977 with a BA in Social Work.
She was predeceased by her husband Joshua Robert Elliott, a computer programmer for the US Post Office, who died in 1990. Also predeceasing her were her older sisters, Hazel and Mary.
Although she has lived in several states through the years including Mass., New York, North Carolina and Maryland, she never lost her love for her home state of Maine and visited there yearly.
In the last few years she lived in Collington Assisted Living facility in Mitchelleville Maryland where she continued her interest in art and solving puzzles. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Atonement of Mitchelleville Maryland.
Rose is survived by her son and daughter, Norman Elliott MD and his wife Pamela, of Atlanta, Georgia, and Kathy Mull of Mitchelleville, Maryland, 7 grandchildren , Rasheed Mull of Washington DC, Kia Chandler (Davone) of Annapolis, MD ,Jason Elliott of Atlanta, GA , Alia Mull of Michelleville, MD, Kristen Eliott of Atlanta, GA, Shawn Mull of Mitchelleville, MD, Willie Mull of Mitchelleville, MD and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are several extended family members and friends.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Saturday, September 12, 2015 from 9-10 AM, at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM with Rev. Philip Shearman officiating. A graveside service will follow at Forest City Cemetery in South Portland.
