Robert E. McLean, formerly of South Portland, ME, passed away on February 22, 2013 at Merrimack Valley Hospice House, Haverhill, MA. He was the son of Charles C. McLean and Madeline (Studley) McLean, born on August 13, 1919 in South Portland, ME.
Bob was predeceased by his wife, Natalie (Winslow) McLean, and brother, Charles. He is survived by two daughters, Marilyn (McLean) Paganucci of Hanover, NH and Marcia (McLean) Brown and her husband, Peter Brown of Groveland, MA; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Bob graduated from South Portland High School in 1937, Portland Junior College 1937-1938 and graduated from Bentley College in 1940. His accounting career began in June 1940 – 1949 as a public accountant with Millet, Fish, & Dresser except for his four-year service in the U.S. Army during World War II as First Lieutenant, Coast Artillery Corps. 1942 – 1946. From April 1949 – April 1967 Bob was employed as Treasurer of Monmouth Canning Company. In April 1967 through December 1985 he was Treasurer of WCSH-Radio & TV with related responsibilities at WLBZ Radio & TV in Bangor, WRDO Radio in August, Congress Square Hotel Co., Congress Square Garage, Inc. and Rines Real Estate Company.
For 22 years Bob served as Treasurer of the Woodfords Club founded by his wife’s grandfather and was a life member of the club. An avid golfer, Bob was a member of the Portland Country Club for many years. He also enjoyed bowling, receiving many awards.
There are no visiting hours scheduled. A memorial service will be celebrated at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford Street Portland, Maine on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. with Rev.
