Rita A. Tobiassen

Rita Ann (Dunn) Tobiassen, 84, of Portland, Maine, died April 19, 2014, with her loving family at her side. She lived a full and joyful life always ready to spend time with family, friends and her card playing buddies.

Rita was born in Rochester, New York, on July 29 , 1929, the daughter of the late John and Mary ( O’Brien) Dunn of Rochester, New York, She was predeceased by her husband Ralph C. Tobiassen.

Survivors include her two sons Thomas F. and his wife Cynthia L. of Gray, Maine and P. Randy and his wife Joyce H. of Lititz , PA; her 5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews. She also was predeceased by her bothers William Dunn, Leo Dunn, John Dunn, and her sisters Kathleen Dunn, Irene Uetz, Margaret Gossin, Mary Uetz, and Jane Briseid.

Rita met and married the love of her life, Ralph. She moved to Portland, Maine where they raised their two boys and enjoyed wonderful fun filled days at Thomas Pond in Raymond, Maine. Most holidays included big family celebrations taking place at their home at Wayside Road and summer home at Thomas Pond. Family was most important to her.

For the past 9 years, Rita has been living at Park Danforth where she enjoyed being with many family members and friends.

Family and Friends are invited to attend a period of visitation to celebrate Rita’s life this Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland, ME. An 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial for Rita will be celebrated this Thursday, April 24 at St. Joseph’s Church, 673 Steven’s Ave. Portland, ME. Burial will follow Mass at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the Tobiassen family suggests memorials be made in Rita’s honor to the American Heart Association, 51 US Rte. 1, Scarborough, ME 04074.
