Rachael Elaine Day

Rachael was born On May 24, 1938 in Newburyport, Massachusetts to Charles and Helen Woods. She attended Newburyport High School and graduated from Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, Massachusetts. Rachael married Walter Sanderson Day in 1958 and settled in Winslow, Maine where she raised her three children and spent many years as the Director of Volunteer Services at Waterville Osteopathic Hospital in Waterville, Maine.

Rachael will be remembered fondly for her gift of hosting family and friends in her beautiful Scarborough home. Rachael loved creating holiday traditions and memories for her children, grandchildren and extended family and worked tirelessly each year to uphold those traditions.

Rachael is survived by her children Jeffrey Day of Lisbon Falls, Maine; Timothy Day; his wife Tracey of Rochester, New Hampshire; Susan Doyon and her husband Chris of Cape Coral, Florida; sister Joan Drott of Newburyport, Massachusetts; grandchildren Matthew, Christopher, Macy, Jodi, Sydney and Makenzie; many cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to VNA Hospice of Scarborough, especially Maia, and close family friend Joanne Baribeau.

There will be no local services. Private burial will be in Newburyport, Massachusetts in the spring.
