Pat was born in Waterville, the sixth child of Albert and Alice (Duranleau) Proulx. Pat proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII in the Asia-Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Devosa. Upon his return stateside Pat spent a brief time working on the Maine Central Railroad. He worked in Presque Isle for the next 60 years, first alongside his brother Real who managed a Gulf station, and then at such places as Texgas Corp., Purolator Courier, and the Aroostook Regional Transportation Company.

He played shortstop for the Presque Isle Indians in the Maine/New Brunswick league and on Class D and C teams at the professional level in the West Texas/New Mexico league. In 2009, he was inducted into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame. A devoted Red Sox fan, he was elated to see the team win three World Series titles. He also loved playing cards, especially cribbage, and even played spirited games of partner cribbage with his grandchildren until shortly before passing away.
Surviving is his wife Ellen Joyce McDonough Proulx whom he was married to in 2007; daughter Patrice Proulx and her husband Gregory Morin of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter Holly Proulx of Eagle Lake and son Real Proulx and his wife Susan of Presque Isle; grandchildren Jessamyn and Tristan Proulx-Morin of Omaha Nebraska; stepdaughters Kathryn Higgins, Joan Tripp and her husband Craig, and Cheryl Jordan.
