Portland- Howard S. Shaw Jr., 72, passed away peacefully to be reunited with his “princess” on Wednesday December 12, 2012. He was born in Portland Maine on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1940. He graduated from Portland High School in 1958, and was in the Maine Army National Guard. In 1954 he met Nancy A. Greer on the steps of the Portland City Hall and it was “love at first sight”. They dated for four years and were married on July 10, 1960. After living in South Portland for a brief time, they bought their home in Portland where they raised their family. Howard was truly a family man and enjoyed trips, with his family, to Florida and to other local destinations. He had a pool put in the backyard for his family to enjoy. When their four children were grown Howard and Nancy enjoyed going on cruises.
Howard worked for Nokian Tire for ten year, and drove tractor trailer for Congdon Transportation for 35 years and finally retired from Shaw’s Supemarket. When he was not working he had a passion for golf.
He was predeceased by his precious wife, Nancy, of 51 years. He is survived by his daughter Dawn Daniel, and her husband Brian, his son Craig Shaw, his daughter Rhonda Howard, and his son Robert Shaw and his wife Stephanie, along with twelve grandchildren, and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his three brothers Eugene Shaw, Gary Shaw, and Kenneth Shaw.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Sunday December 16, 2012 from 2:00-4:00 PM and from 6:00-8:00 PM at Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland. A funeral will be held at the funeral home on Monday December 17, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery on Steven’s Avenue in Portland.
