1928-2020
Gerry Miller passed from this world on August 2, 2020. He was born in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia to Graydon & Beulah Hersey Miller. He is predeceased by his wife, Isabell Miller and his brother Raymond Miller. He leaves behind daughter, Lynn Young (husband Bill), grandaughters Laura and Leah, daughter Peggy Richardson (husband Peter), granddaughter Kelsey and grandson, Joseph, and great granddaughter Mira.
.
Gerry was associated with transportation his whole life. He started with Eastern Steamship Lines as a very young man, then a brief two year stint as a branch manager for Irving Oil, and then with Canadian National in Canada and the U.S. from 1951 until his retirement in Cumberland, Maine in 1986. Although he had a great love for trains, his favorite post was with the Bluenose Ferry service in Bar Harbor from 1964-1979. His leisure time boating in Frenchman’s Bay “were the best times of my life”. And that is where he has requested his ashes be spread.
His retirement was busier than his career years, if that is possible, with side jobs and so many, many projects, his to-do list still close at hand until the very end. In his later years trains became a passion revisited. His brother Ray was doing the same in Nova Scotia and they shared their layouts with visits, photos and phone calls. Gerry, who could fix just about anything and grow just about everything will be so greatly missed by his family far and near.
He was a former member of the Lions Club and the Rotary, he was a mason and a Shriner and he would be pleased that any gifts in his memory be sent to Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals. The family will have a small gathering at a later date when the world is a safer place.
Two long, one short, one long, Dad.
