SCARBOROUGH – Frances E. (Emerson) Reardon, 63, of Falmouth passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough with her family by her side.
Fran was born in Portland on June 11, 1951, a daughter of Karl D. and Phyllis L. (Henderson) Emerson.
She graduated from Falmouth High School in 1969 and earned a BS degree from University of Southern Maine. Fran was married to Gene R. Reardon on August 2, 1969 and was a disability claims examiner at UNUM until 2000 when she retired to care for her mother.
Fran was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in 2006 and was determined to fight this disease. Despite two stem cell transplants and continuous chemotherapy regimens, she never complained and maintained a very good quality of life. She planned her activities around her chemo schedule and, on her better days, continued to garden, knit, shop and travel. She was an avid reader, member of a local book club and a long-time supporter and volunteer at the Falmouth Memorial Library.
In addition to her husband Gene, she is survived by son Michael K. Reardon of Portland, daughter Christina (Tina) M. Reardon of Westbrook, grandson Anthony M. Reardon of Portland, brother Charles D. Emerson , sister-in-law Peggy , nephew Robert and niece, Kathryn of Arlington Heights, IL and sister Cheryl A. Emerson of Oklahoma City, OK. Fran was especially proud of grandson Anthony and cherished her last few visits with him.
The family would like to acknowledge the excellent and compassionate care provided by Jacquelyn A. Hedlund, M.D. and her staff as well as Hospice of Southern Maine and the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
Family and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation on Wednesday, March 4, 2015 from 4-7 pm at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 5, 2015 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
