Edith Hegarty of Buxton, Maine passed away peacefully at home on June 16, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born in Portland, Maine on April 20, 1934, the daughter of Daniel and Eva (Chaput) LaRochelle.
Edie grew up in Scarborough and attended Scarborough public schools. In 1961 Edie married Earl Hegarty, and they went on to spend 59 years together. The two of them raised three wonderful sons, Warren, George, and Frank. Edie was a great cook and often had family over for dinner, with her homemade spaghetti and meatballs being a favorite of all. Through the years Edie took pride in meticulously maintaining her home and taking care of her family.
Edie was an amazing mother and grandmother. She lovingly spent many hours making homemade Halloween costumes, attending concerts and plays, sporting events, dance recitals, and any awards ceremonies that her family was a part of. She especially enjoyed the title of Gram that was lovingly bestowed upon her by her grandchildren Sean, Jessica, Rachel, David, Nicholas, Allison, and her great-grandchildren Tyler and Quinn. As she scoured the newspaper, she found anything with one of her children or grandchildren’s name and clipped it. She made a sweet box of memories.
Edie was a talented crafter and for years contributed many of her items to the annual Christmas fair at St. Anne’s Church in Gorham. She also blessed her family with many quilts, dolls, and special items she created.
Edie held several positions throughout her life and spent her last working years running the office at Hegarty Plumbing & Heating, Inc., keeping both the books and her boys in line.
Edith is predeceased by her parents Daniel and Eva LaRochelle, and her siblings Daniel LaRochelle, Keith LaRochelle, and Arthur LaRochelle.
Edith is survived by her loving husband Earl Hegarty, her sons Warren Hegarty (Kathryn), George Hegarty (Marie) and Frank Hegarty (Debra), six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, her sister, Elsie Heiser, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at St. Anthony’s Church, 268 Brown St. Westbrook, Maine.
