Carl R. Russell

Carl R. Russell, 59, of Windham, ME, passed away unexpectedly on July 28, 2016. He was born in New Haven, CT., a son of Carl and Florence (Virtue) Russell. Carl graduated from Hill House High School in 1974 where he excelled in swimming. He was also in Drum Core.

He and his longtime partner Linda Rowe, owned Animal Behavior Consultants and Avant-garde Pet Care, LLC in Windham, ME, where he was an Animal Behavior Consultant. He and Linda also trained, boarded and groomed dogs and cats. Carl was a warm, caring person and had a way with people and animals. His love for dogs and knowledge of their behavior was amazing to watch, often appearing as though he spoke a secret language only they could understand. He was known for his training ability, particularly with dog behavior related to aggression.

Carl had a long legacy in the dog world besides training. He competed in obedience and Ring Sport competitions. He performed lectures and demonstration for various utility companies and schools as well as working with dogs from various local Police Depts.

Carl always enjoyed talking politics and loved a good political debate. He will be sadly missed for his sense of humor, his kindness to everyone and his love for his family.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers, Frederick White and Rickman Russell and a sister, Carla Russell.

He is survived by his longtime partner, Linda Rowe of Windham; sister, Laurie Russell of Princeton, NJ; stepson, Bart Mawossi; aunt and uncle; Winifred and Sam Dixon of Hamden, CT. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 11 am on Friday, August 5, 2016, at Jones Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. Portland. A private interment will take place at a later date.
