Born July 30, 1928 in Portland, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Sarah Gulizio Fichera of Mineo Sicily.
Ann grew up in the Italian neighborhood of Portland and graduated with honors from Cathedral High School. She married Carlo Bruni on October 15, 1947 meeting him when she worked for a brief time as a legal secretary in Portland.
Before moving to Spring Hill, FL with Carlo, she raised her family of four children on Sherwood St. Portland.
After her husband’s death, Ann moved back to Maine to be near her family and lived on Highland Lake in Windham, where the family has had a camp for many years. In her later years she loved looking out over the lake watching her great grandchildren play in the water.
Ann was a communicant at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church. She had many devoted friends and was always the willing and gracious host. Her greatest joy was cooking feasts simple or grand for friends, family and anyone that came to her door. No one ever left her house hungry. Ann was also an avid reader and traveler, her last trip was to Sicily where she spent time with her children and visited her cousins living in Mineo.
Besides her parents and husband of 53 years she was predeceased by her dog Zak.
She is survived by her children; Patricia Smith-Bruni of Lewiston, James Bruni of Portland, Mary Libby and Carol Bruni both of Windham, she is also survived by six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday April 10, 2012 at St. Peters Roman Catholic Church 72 Federal St. Portland. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery South Portland.
