Topsham, ME - Andrew Vincenzo Atripaldi, April 5, 1927. First son of Vincenzo and Marie Atripaldi, beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather and dear friend, passed away stoically and peacefully at home after a prolonged illness, with close family and friends by his side on Saturday, November 27, 2010.
Known best to all who loved him as “Pal,” Andy was a proud WWII veteran who earned his way through life from early years on Munjoy Hill delivering papers, shining shoes and welding in the Portland shipyard, to service as a Ship Fitter Third Class in the US Navy on the Island of Guam in 1944, through over 50 years of private restaurant ownership. Well known around the state of Maine as a man who was true to his word and clear in his deeds, Andy loved a great meal, good company and live action. A self-made, successful small business owner, Andy did it his way, which included affordable service, shelter from the storm, a word of advice or a ride home in a snowstorm, whatever was needed most. “How can I help you, kid?” is a catch phrase from Andy that countless have been honored by and that family would like all to remember in thoughts about him. A hardworking man with a small family restaurant serving all walks of life, you could always get a good meal and a good conversation with Andy at Vincenzo’s.
Pre-deceased by his parents and five siblings, Andrew is survived by his son, Vincent, grandchildren Andrew and Amanda, great grandchildren Gavin, Ethan and Ashton, brothers John and Louis, sisters Philomena and Eleanor.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford Street, Portland. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 72 Federal Street, Portland. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
