Shirley Ann James

Shirley was born to Robert Dunlap and Florence Baker in Leckrone, PA, as the sixth born of twelve children. Shirley graduated from Redstone Sr. High School, in Republic, PA and from there traveled to New York City, NY to work where she met and married her husband, Leroy Williams in 1957(deceased). From that union, two children were born, Gwendolyn Veronica Williams and Anthony Leroy Williams (deceased March 2015).

Shirley worked as a Budget Analyst for the Department of Energy in Washington DC for over 35 years and retired in October 1998. She worked for senior executives and traveled all over the United States representing her Agency. She loved to talk about her trips to Africa’s Missionary where she toured different parts of Africa and shared fond memories of all the African safaris across and how she crossed over from Egypt to Israel to visit “the Holy Land.” Shirley had a strong faith and trust in the Lord whom she loved with all her heart. She was an active member of the National Church of God for over 20 years and loved her church family.

Shirley left New York City and returned to Washington, DC and started working for various government agencies. She met and married her husband Ronald R. James in 1975. In July 2005, Shirley and her husband relocated to Port Saint Lucie, FL and joined the Lighthouse Chapel Church.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ronald James, her son, Anthony Williams, her brothers, Clarence Dunlap, Nathaniel Dunlap, and Cecil Dunlap; three sister, Vivian Marie Dunlap, Delores Christian, and Eleanor Barney.

She leaves to cherish memories of her daughter, Gwendolyn Smith (husband Nathan, deceased), grandchildren, Matthew and Justin Smith, and Anthony Williams; children, Tarrahn, Terrell, and Tamika, stepson, Mike, her siblings, Robert C.G. Dunlap (wife Gloria), Almira Swygert, Cheri McCormes and Deborah Slade, and a host of nieces and nephews, 7 great grandchildren as well as other relatives and friends.

A visitation for Shirley will be held Friday, June 10, 2022 from 12-1pm with a service beginning at 1:00pm at Aycock Funeral Home 1504 SE Floresta Drive Port St Lucie, Florida 34983.

Shirley will be laid to rest at South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth, Florida at a later date.
