Olga Brown was born on August 4,1939 to Ida Wright and Terah Brown in Springfield St. Elizabeth, Jamaica West Indies. She received her education at Springfield All-Age School. Olga later migrated to the United States. Olga was the birth mother of six children as well as the adopted mother of two grandchildren. Later in life Olga was once married to Alphanso Mitchell.
Olga always wanted to be a nurse but that never materialized. However, she was employed by Caring Neighbor as a Home Health Aide. Olga was forever passionate about her career and spoke fondly of her patients. After twenty years with Caring Neighbor and an active member of the 1199 Union, Olga retired and moved from New York to Florida.
Olga spent the years raising her two granddaughters and being faithful to her church. During this time, she was a member of the Gold and Silver Ministry and Choir, a member of the All Nations Gospel Choir and the Monday Morning Prayer Ministry. The last two years were difficult ones for Olga as she could no longer attend church services. However, she was diligent in participating in the teleconference prayer meetings on Friday afternoons and enjoying the live streaming of the Sunday Services each week.
Olga will be remembered for her infectious laughter and her radiant smile. Her kindness was beyond measure. This wonderful characteristic reached family members as well as strangers.
Although a strict disciplinarian, the center of Olga’s world was her children. Olga toiled hard during her working years to assure that her children become successful in life. She always encouraged her children to “make hay while the sun shines”, to use every opportunity to rise above her career wise. Olga laid the foundation for children and grandchildren by modeling how an immigrant can be successful regardless of all negativity around her.
Olga is preceded by her loving parents, her handsome brothers, her youngest sister and her beloved daughter Opal.
Olga leaves to cherish many beautiful memories of her life: her wonderful children Marjorie (Donna), the twins, Wayne (Rowe), Fabian (Vol), Tyrone (New York), Robin (Rick) New York: Grandchildren: Gavin, Tyler, Andrew, Richard, Chamaine, Shawntel, Waynette, Nathaniel, Imani, Amber-Rose, Alexia, Alex and Rania-Amari: Great Grandchildren: Tatianna, Kayla, Jahwyanza and Prince Amarri: Siblings : Louise (Jamaica), Miranda(Jamaica), Enid (Florida), and Hermine (Jamaica): A host of nieces and nephews, in-laws, many dear friends as well as her dedicated church friends.
