Mario J. Monteiro

Mario John Monteiro, 62, of Port Saint Lucie Florida, passed away on September 28, 2024, at home surrounded by his family and friends. Mario was born in Lisbon, Portugal to John and Natalia Monteiro. Mario immigrated to the United States with his family in March of 1969.

Mario was the beloved brother of Maria Monteiro-Childe and John A. Monteiro (Susan) and proud uncle to Bryan Childe (Katelyn), Janell Monteiro, Kristopher Monteiro (Monica) and Eric Monteiro (Rachel). He was the great uncle of Connor Dessingue, Greyson Dessingue, Sophia Monteiro, Penelope Jayne Vaught-Johnson, Natalie Monteiro and Kristiano Monteiro. He was the cousin of Paula Soares, Luis Soares (Julia), Mario Soares (Ana), Sonia Soares (Bruno) and Simao Soares, Tomas Soares, Andre Soares, Dinis Soares and Alice Santos, and Francisco Santos. Mario loved his great nephews and nieces and they affectionally referred to him as the “Tickle Monster”. He was predeceased by his father John M. Monteiro (2010), his brother-in-law Willian Childe (2015) and his mother Maria Natalia Monteiro (2019).

Mario loved his nanny Auzenda Basilio who referred to him as the “Prince King” and loved his trips to Portugal to spend time with her.

Mario attended the State University of New York Polytechnic Institute in Utica, New York and graduated Cum Laude in 1987 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and Accounting. While attending college in Utica, he made great friends and remained friends with many of them through the years.

Mario moved to Port Saint Lucie, Florida with his family in August of 1987 and began his professional career with Money Concepts Wealth Management and Financial Planning in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. During his 30 years of service, he was instrumental in the growth and development of the company working closely with company’s founder John P. Walsh and his son, Denis Walsh. While at the company he rose to be Senior Vice President, Financial and Operations Principal and the Chief Information and Operations Officer. Mario was well regarded in the Financial Industry and received numerous awards. He cherished the relationship that he developed over the years with the Money Concepts Financial Advisors throughout the United States, remaining friends with many of them after his retirement.

Mario immediately fell in love with Port Saint Lucie and became a big advocate for the growth and expansion of the City. His love and commitment to Port Saint Lucie was always evident as demonstrated by the fact that he became a Port Saint Lucie Ambassador.

Mario cherished his family and his special friends in Port Saint Lucie that became part of his family. He enjoyed getting together with his friends at his home, reminiscing about his travels and sharing stories and laughter. His friends respectfully called him “Papa Smurf” and “Mr. Gadget”.

Mario loved traveling, especially to his native Portugal, and spending time with friends and his cousins. He was proud to be Portuguese American and was always ready to support and help the many Portuguese friends that reside in Port Saint Lucie. He was involved in the Portuguese American Cultural Club of Port Saint Lucie where he held several Board of Directors positions.

Mario was known for his great sense of humor, and his caring and compassionate heart. He loved spending time with his family and friends and traveling throughout the world. Mario touched many lives with his kindness, generosity, and sense of humor.

The family would like to thank Dr. My at Stuart Oncology for the excellent care that he provided along with staff Carrie Ann, Tina and Suzette. The family would also like to express its gratitude for the exceptional care that the staff at Treasure Coast Hospice provided him making a difficult time easier through their kindness and compassion.

A Memorial Service will be held at Aycock Funeral Home at Tradition, 12571 Tradition Parkway, Port Saint Lucie, Florida on Monday, October 14 at 5:00 PM.
