A Celebration of Life
January 3, 1931 – February 6, 2019
Linda Germain, Linda Pierre, Man Youyou, Manmi Linda, Grandma, MammiDa, and Mom are the epithets of a special woman God blessed us with for eighty-eight years.
Born of a humble, wise quiet dove, Grann Céda (Marie Pierre), Linda Germain was the ultimate glass ceiling breaker. With limited schooling, at a time when society did not propel girls to be all that they can be, she overcame many social, financial, and political barriers to carve a special life for herself and her five children and countless others. Linda was a woman of God-given intelligence, natural beauty, class, determination, unparalleled discipline and above all a big heart. She touched many lives.
From an early age, she embraced motherhood with all her might, putting everything on the line to uplift her children’s future and improve their chances for a better life and well-being. ManmiDa’s love and affection for Idalbert her husband, friend and companion of forty-two years was evident and beyond measure. She embraced and religiously kept to her mission to be a great partner, faithful to her engagement “for better and for worse ‘til death do us part”.
Linda had a passion for cooking and hosting friends and family. She made everyone who stepped in her home and especially her kitchen feel warm and welcomed. She was blessed with the gift of hospitality that was clearly visible in and around her kitchen. She loved hosting holiday meals and welcomed all to her table. She was known for her Haitian Independence Day “soup joumou” every New Year’s Day. Linda had a sense of grandeur and love of beauty perceived in all that she touched.
Linda Germain celebrated life with her children, family and friends at every possible occasion. Throughout her life, she has opened her home and heart to many in Massachusetts, Florida and her native Haiti. She championed excellence, preached and pushed her children, grandchildren, and friends to reach for the skies.
Linda Germain was and remains an inspiration to many, leaving us with buckets full of lessons, stories and examples of strength, pride, resilience, love, appreciation, affection, admiration, stoic leadership and humility and above all, faith.
Linda Germain is survived by her husband, Idalbert Germain; her children: Grace Achille, Jocelin César, Linda César and Daniel Pierre; her son-in-law and daughters-in-law: Jean Achille , Dr. Rose César, and Nicole Pierre; her step children Roseline Germain, Gerson Germain, Frida Germain, Samuel Joseph, Marie Joseph, Marlène Joseph, Mona Joseph, Vaudrey Joseph, Claude Joseph; her grandchildren: Richard César, Magdalie Achille, Daniella Achille, Jennie Achille, Oliver César, Malcom César, Roseline Achille, Kayla Andae Noël, Adaya Pierre, Frezghi Yves Noël; her grandchildren-in-law: Mirlande Achille, Kathleen Achille, and Pascale Achille-Bennett; her brother and sister Elius Lamour and Valina Fleury; her nieces and nephews: Marie César, Junie Fontaine, Jasmine Thélusma, André Thélusma Freddie Thélusma, Exode Thélusma and Bany Lamour; along with countless family members and friends.
