Born in Cleveland, OH, Jon was a resident of Ft. Pierce several years.
During the Vietnam War, Mr. Toler served from 1967 – 1969 in the US Army.
Prior to retirement in 2005, Jon was a Teacher, Coach and Dean of Students at John Carroll High School in Ft. Pierce for 31 years. He was referred to as “The Boss” by many. He had guided the Golden Rams to a St. Lucie County record six state championships. (five in volleyball and one in baseball) He was inducted into the St. Lucie County Sports Hall of Fame in 1997.
Mr. Toler loved the outdoors, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle and taking his jeep to Colorado and North Carolina. Jon loved to travel, visiting all 50 states, but he especially loved his wife, children and grandchildren. He was a member of the VFW in Glenville, North Carolina.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Toler of Ft. Pierce, FL; one daughter, Stephanie Langel and husband Phillip of Ft. Pierce, FL; two sons, Curtis Toler of Ft. Pierce, FL, Jeffrey Toler and wife Sara of Jacksonville Beach, FL; two grandchildren Jacob and Gavin Langel; three brothers, Daniel Toler, Tom Toler, both of Sarasota, FL, Tim Toler of Little Rock, Ark; and sister, Jill Doss of Hilton Head, SC.
Visitation will be Monday, May 19, 2014, 4:00PM – 7:00PM at the John Carroll High School Auditorium. A Service will follow Monday, May 19, 2014, 7:00PM at the high school.
