Johnnie Johnson, 77, of Port Saint Lucie, FL, passed away on October 4, 2023. He was born on March 24, 1946, in Henderson, NC to Dorsey Nokomis Johnson and Margaret Long Luce. Johnnie was a caring person who enjoyed his family and served as a role model for his peers.
Johnnie is survived by his loving wife, Suzanne Johnson, and his children: Sharon Johnson of Pell City, AL; Sherry Johnson of Pell City, AL; Lisa Wood of Knoxville, TN; Brian Van Veen of Port Saint Lucie, FL; and Dwayne Johnson of Fort Pierce, FL. He is also survived by his daughter-in-laws, Leanne Van Veen of Port Saint Lucie, FL, and Rebecca McClanahan Johnson of Fort Pierce, FL, and Son-in-law, Tom Orr of Pell City, AL.
Johnnie will be dearly missed by his grandchildren: Jacob Allen Wood of Knoxville, TN; Justin Anthony Van Veen of Port Saint Lucie, FL; Emma Nicole Johnson of Orlando, FL; Stella Harper Johnson of Fort Pierce, FL; Tyler Edwards Johns of Lincoln, AL; and Furman Henry Orr of Pell City, AL. He is also survived by his brothers: Tommy Johnson of Oshkosh, WI; Herbert Johnson of Stuart, FL; Dennis Johnson of Stuart, FL; and Adam Johnson of Ft. Pierce, FL. His surviving sisters are Patricia Clegg of Lake City, FL; Darlene Johnson of Ocala, FL; Robin Carr Kamp of Peaks Island, ME; and Michelle Carr of Jensen Beach, FL. Additionally, Johnnie is survived by Valerie Johnson and other extended family members.
Johnnie attended Martin County High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1963 to 1967.
Following his military service, Johnnie had a fulfilling career. He served as a firefighter in Saint Lucie County from 1967 to 1972 and then joined the Stuart Police Department, Stuart, FL from 1972 to 1989. From 1989 to 2003, Johnnie worked with the Martin County Sheriff Department and retired as a lieutenant.
Johnnie enjoyed fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family and loved ones.
A Memorial Mass will be held to honor Johnnie on Saturday, October 21, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Holy Family Catholic Church, located at 2330 SE Mariposa, Port St. Lucie, Florida 34985.
