Elizabeth Erb (nee Stoothoff), 92, passed away on April 8, 2023 in Port St. Lucie, Florida. She was known by Bette to all family and friends. Bette was born on September 4, 1930 to Catherine Stoothoff and George H. Stoothoff in Queens, New York. From Queens they moved to High Falls, New York, where she spent several years of her childhood before moving back to New York CIty and ultimately spending her last years of high school on Long Island.
After graduating from Sayville High School, Bette attended Simmons College and subsequently returned to New York to start her career.
Bette met Grover Rae Erb in 1955 and they were married the following year. Their marriage lasted for 50 years, until his passing in 2006. Bette and Grover raised their three daughters in Levittown, New York. After spending time engaged in community service and the PTA of her children’s schools, she returned to the workforce and spent the next 23 years at Connecticut General Life Insurance Company. She stayed with the company until retiring in Florida in 1993.
She loved spending time with her family, especially showering her grandchildren with love and attention.
Even in her retirement, Bette enjoyed staying active. She was President of two different Columbiette auxiliaries and the founder of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton chapter. She was an active member of the homeowners association board in her community in Margate, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grover, her siblings, George Reichard, Gretchen Greenhut, Marie Friedman, and her son-in-law, Tom Comerford.
Bette is survived by her brother, John Reichard; her daughters, Betteanne Comerford, Nancy Erb and Amy-Jo Dunstan (Tom); her seven grand-children, Kara Jex (Shaun), Katie Comerford, Aimee Hock (Ryan), Kieran Dunstan, Taylor Dunstan, Erin Price (Dorrall) and Thomas Dunstan; and four great-grandchildren Hayden Jex, Kaitlyn Jex, Miles Hock and Nora Hock.
A wake will be held on Wednesday, April 19 from 2-4pm and from 6-8pm at Aycock at Tradition Funeral Home in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, April 20 at St.Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie at 11:00. A final mass and internment will be held May 17, 2023, at 11:00, at Pinelawn National Cemetery on Long Island New York.
