Andrea was born on the 5th of January 1966 in the district of Content, Balaclava, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica to Daphne Allen and Earl Reid. She is the youngest of 2 children that were blessed by that union. Her brother Everton Reid and she grew up together and they maintained a very close relationship.
At 2 years old, Andrea and her family moved to the city of Kingston where they resided in Portmore until she migrated to the U.S in 2009.
Andrea attended Holy Family School then went on to attend Holy Trinity Secondary School. She worked for the General Post Office in Kingston for many years.
On September 10th, 1997, Andrea and Paul welcomed a daughter (Anika), who she was devoted to and who was the light of her life.
While living in Brooklyn, N.Y, Andrea worked at Norwegian Christian Home & Health Center and New York-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.
Andrea enjoyed baking, shopping, and listening to Garnett Silk songs. She was never a world-class cook but she made a “wicked” spare ribs. She loved children very much and passionately helped to mother her nephew Marlon. She adored her Uncle Shem who she cared for before his passing. Andrea held a special place in her heart for her male cousins especially Hayden and Shayne as well as for her neighbor Sheldon.
In January 2019, on her way to work at NYPH she felt ill and was taken to that said hospital’s emergency department where the devastating discovery of Grade IV Glioblastoma was made. Her doctors immediately started treatment including brain surgery followed by radiation and chemotherapy.
Andrea battled this deadly disease for 18 months with steadfast determination, courage and with her strong faith in God who she accepted before her illness. She was supported by a slew of family, friends, and colleagues during this time.
Andrea moved to Florida in her final days to be with her mother as her health deteriorated.
Andrea is survived by her parents Daphne and Earl; her daughter Anika; her husband Paul; her maternal brother Everton; other paternal siblings; her nephew Marlon; her aunts and uncles; many cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
