Pat was born in Austin, Minnesota on January 3, 1938 to the parents of Lenore and Clifford Kasak. On August 29, 1959 she married Ron Roushar of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and they would start their adventure of husband and wife; one that lasted nearly 57 years – but will remain in their hearts forever.
Pat and Ron started their family in Cedar Rapids with the arrival of Jenny and Jackie and completed their family with the addition of Jeff after they moved to rural Vinton, Iowa. Pat worked at Rockwell-Collins, Iowa Manufacturing, Kirkwood Community College and Trinity Lutheran Church; but focused the majority of her life on the family and anyone that she knew needing help. In 2008 they started their new adventure and moved to the Daytona Beach area.
Pat was best known for making meals, soups, breads and lots of cookies; lots and lots of cookies for anyone who was sick, came to the house to visit, plumber, carpenter, garbage collector, etc. She was in the middle of making another batch of cookies when she fell ill.
She also was an avid gardener, creating a spectacular botanical garden wherever the family lived. These would be filled with brilliant color of blooms that could last as long as the seasons allowed. Pat was also an accomplished artist earning several awards with her oil paintings. She enjoyed making crafts of all types and was known for her crocheted “scrubbies” and cotton dishrags which were gifts to many.
Pat never knew a stranger. The family always joked that she could make a life-long friend at a stop light. She wasn’t concerned what neighborhood you grew up in but wanted to learn all about it. In fact, she wanted to learn about everything and everybody; regardless of your nationality, religion or personal beliefs, wanting everyone to love each other equally. Wouldn’t the world be a better place if we all followed that lifestyle?
Pat is survived by her husband Ron (Port Orange), daughter and son-in-law Jen and Tom Schreier (Olathe, Kansas), daughter and son-in-law Jackie and Richard Bear (Vinton, Iowa), son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Ann Roushar (Cedar Rapids, Iowa), sister Charlotte (Marengo, Iowa), brother Jim (Cedar Rapids), 3 grandchildren – Abby (Charley) Cronk, Alyssa Hilton and Jackson Roushar and 3 great-grandchildren – Zoey and Daphne Cronk and Mason Knutson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Her death was preceded by her brother David Kasak, parents Lenore Miller, stepfather Ed Miller, father Clifford Kasak; mother-in-law Wilma Roushar and her grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. We know they were there to welcome Pat into the Lord’s arms.
A memorial service will be planned in the coming months in Iowa pending arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Pat’s name to Camp Courageous, 12007 190th Street, Monticello, IA 52310.
