Jerry E. Ellis, 84, of Port Orange, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, April 21, 2015. A lifetime resident of this area, Jerry was the son of Ruth and W.E. Ellis. He was a graduate of Seabreeze High School and honorably served in the U. S. Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict. While serving in the Marines, Jerry received training as a carpenter and a tank commander. Jerry was awarded the Purple Heart for the injuries he sustained during combat. He returned home after being discharged and joined the local carpenters union where he worked until his retirement. Jerry was a member of the 1st Baptist Church of Harbor Oaks. He enjoyed playing sports in his youth and in later years hiking the Appalachian Trail, fishing, martial arts ( Yoshi Ki) attending Daytona State College, boating and biking. He was a certified master diver and went scuba diving whenever possible. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Judith; sons John (Lois), Gainesville, FL, Jerry (Jacqueline) Manassas, VA, and Barry (Mona), Port Orange; daughters Kate Pippert, Patty (Bill) Hall both from GA; Linda Mroz (Richard), Arvada, CO. and step-daughter Mary Louise Nash, Lexington, KY; brothers John (Joan) Ellis, Daytona Beach and Joseph (Judie), South Daytona; 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. Saturday April 25, 2015 at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 548 N. Nova Rd. Ormond Beach. Funeral services conducted by Dr.Charles Mims. will follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will be in Volusia Memorial Park, Ormond Beach.
