Port Orange, FL, Fredericka (Fredy) Emile Utz Sims, age 76, passed away June 4, 2012. She was born October 24, 1935 in Huntington, West Virginia to Paul Emil Utz and Dorothea (Swann) Utz. She married James R. Sims in 1952 and moved to a ranch in New Mexico. She earned her Bachelor degree from New Mexico State University, Las Cruces, New Mexico. She lived in New Mexico 40 years. She transferred with the government in 1992 to Daytona Beach, Florida and retired in 1996 as a secretary from the Department of Defense, U. S. Army. She was a volunteer at Horizon Elementary School for 6 years. She belonged to TOPS, AARP, NARFE, PORT, the Opera Club, the West Virginia Club, the JTHEM Book Club, Daytona Beach Shores Senior Center, Young at Heart Support Group, Adams Mark Beach Club, and her church. She did private tutoring in her home for 4 years. She was a member of the All Saints Lutheran Church in Port Orange. Her hobbies were reading, traveling, and movies, swimming and helping children. She is survived by two sons, James R. Sims, Jr. (Rebecca), Los Alamos, NM and George E. Sims, II (Pamela), Albuquerque, NM. Three daughters, Dr. Sioux A. Stevens (Mike), Billings, MT, Dorothea D. Sims, Las Cruces, NM and Paula F. Vallejo (Jean Noel), Daytona Beach, FL. One sister, Paulina U. Salopek, Las Cruces, NM and one brother Paul A. Utz, Henderson, NV. Eleven grandsons, Weston, Bradford, Patrick, Harrison, Jean Noel, Jr., Devin, Miles, George Ramon, Justin, Troy and Luke also survive her. Six grand-daughters, Sarah, Jessica, Bessie, Nicole, Michelle, and Jillian. Two great-grandsons Tucker and Jacob and four great-granddaughters Elsie, Annabelle, Haley and Jasmine. Her brother, Dr. Richard E. Reed, San Bernardino, CA and her parents preceded her in death. Fredy’s greatest love was her family. Visitation will be Sunday, June 10 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Volusia Memorial Funeral Home 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd. Port Orange, Florida. Funeral services will be held at All Saints Lutheran Church, 751 Dunlawton Avenue, Port Orange on Monday, June 11 at 3 p.m.. Graveside services will follow at Volusia Memorial Park, 550 N.
