Maria Ledesma Vela, 86 of Victoria, formerly of Port Lavaca, passed away December 7, 2015. She was born July 12, 1929 to the late Guadalupe Concha Garibay. She worked as an X-Ray Technician for Champ Traylor Memorial and then retired from the Port Lavaca Clinic. Maria was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in numerous roles of the Relief Society, including President.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Delgado (Jerry) of Buda, Beth Garcia (Robert) of Victoria, Ida Cantu (Izzy) of Richwood; sons, Julio “Buddy” Vela Jr. (Rose) of Kyle, Roy David Vela of Port Lavaca, J.D. Vela (Kathy) of San Antonio, Ruben Vela (Nora) of Port Alto/Olivia; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Julio Vela; parents, Gabino and Guadalupe Garibay; daughter, Nora Mae Vela; 3 sisters; 1 brother and 1 granddaughter.
Visitation will be held Thursday, December 10, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be Friday, December 11, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Port Lavaca with Shilo Monney officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Gardens.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be her granddaughters.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation or Hospice of South Texas.
