Kenneth McCreedy Boyd-Robertson, Jr., age 87, was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Kenneth and Antoinette Boyd-Robertson on April 6, 1936 and died peacefully at his home in Port Lavaca, Texas on December 9, 2023. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at 1:30PM at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery, with memorial services following at Salem Lutheran Church at 2:30PM. Serving as pallbearers are Max Sturm, Robert Dale Wall, Paul Kelm, Ervin "Hammy" Berger, David McAfee and Richard Hinds. Honorary pallbearers are Boyd Staloch, Port Lavaca Fire Department and Alfred Adame.
Kenneth married his high school sweetheart, Ruthie Berger in 1956, and they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary on December 1. For most of his adulthood, Kenneth worked as a letter carrier. The people on his route knew him as “Mr. Red,” and he often delivered them roses grown in his own garden along with their mail. Until his retirement, Kenneth was a volunteer firefighter in Port Lavaca, served as a summer instructor at Fireman’s Training School in College Station, and was instrumental in bringing modern life-saving equipment and practices to the local station. He also served in the Civil Defense, providing emergency care during Hurricane Carla and other major disasters. For his community service in the area of fire safety, he was awarded the 1987 GEICO Award for Public Service, an award given to one public employee nationwide in each of 4 categories.
Kenneth enjoyed people from all walks of life and particularly liked trading stories with anyone he met. More than anything, he treasured family, and the time he could spend with family members. He was a favorite of grandkids and great grandkids.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Ruthie; his children Kay Sevick with spouse Gerry, Kyle Boyd-Robertson with spouse Paula, and Phil Boyd-Robertson; by grandchildren Sarah Adkins, Jacob Sevick with spouse Yoko, Steven Boyd-Robertson with spouse Megan, Richard Hinds, Anna Sevick, Kayla Boyd-Robertson, Kasey Hinds, Joy Boyd-Robertson, and Grace Boyd-Robertson; by his sister Martha Yarborough and brother James Robert Boyd-Robertson, as well as numerous beloved great-grandchildren and other family members. He is predeceased by his daughter Kerry Kim (d. 2015) and grandson Stephen (d. 2019).
More than anything, Kenneth treasured his family and he served God by loving them and by serving his community. He was truly a man who “walked humbly with his God.” He made this world a better place and will be greatly missed.
