Emma Joe Wheeler, 84, of Lolita passed away June 17, 2015. She was born in Rio Hondo, TX on Oct. 27, 1930 to the late Thomas Alton “Smokey” Caffall and Lee Ella Goode Caffall. She attended Texas Southmost College from 1948-1950. In 1950 she married Jack Edwin Carpenter, to this union 4 sons and 2 daughters were born. In 1970 she was united in marriage to Arthur F. “Hoppy” Wheeler and moved her family to Lolita, TX where she lived for 44 years and was a faithful member of the Lolita United Methodist Church. She retired as the treasurer of the church at the age of 80. She loved her church family and she and Hoppy helped build the present building. She enjoyed playing bridge and her bridge friends. She loved her family and was always there for them. Her family and friends will miss this Special Woman.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita LaNell Gross; step-daughter, Debra Lynn Wheeler; sister, Judy Ann Estes; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Lee Ann Bowen; sons, Jack Edwin Carpenter, Jr, Henry Clayton Carpenter, Russell Ray Carpenter, Joe Edwin Carpenter; sister, Janie Lee Waters and brother, Thomas Alton Caffall, Jr.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. at Richardson-Colonial Funeral Home in Port Lavaca. Funeral Services will be Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Lolita United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Red Bluff Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Heath Carpenter, Clayton Carpenter, Colby Bowen, Jordan Gross, Benjamin Gross and Randy Waters.
Honorary Pallbearers are Bob Gross and Roger Hedges.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Lolita United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
