David S. Smith, 78, of Port Lavaca, passed away on Saturday, January 25, 2014. Born on November 19, 1935 to Owen and Shelby Smith, he lived in Port Lavaca his entire life. David married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann McDonald in 1955. He worked for several years at Auto Parts before his 25 year stint as a machinist at Union Carbide. David and Patricia had 5 children before her death to lupus in 1981. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Owen E. Smith, III.
Survivors include his sister, Mary Jane Smith of Port Lavaca; sons David of Kingwood, Mark of Houston, Greg of Victoria; and daughters Melanie Mohler of Kingwood and Theresa Madore of San Antonio. Grandchildren are Stephen Mohler of Atascocita, Shelby Smith of Houston, Catherine Mohler of Kingwood, Susan Smith of Houston, and Kristen and Andrew Madore of San Antonio.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 27, 2014 from 5-7pm at Richardson Colonial Funeral Home, 123 Newlin St., with a rosary being recited at 7pm. Funeral services will take place at 10am, on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, 415 W. Austin St.. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, 1517 fm 1679.
Pallbearers will be John Madore, Jeff Smith, Dave Ghiselin, Randy Benes, Glenn Kurtz, and Kenneth Weaver.
Honorary pallbearers will be Louis Fabrygel Jr., Dan Respondek and Glendon Hill.
In lieu of remembrances, donations may be made to one’s charity of choice.
