Billy Mac Nichols

On August 12, 2012, Billy Mac Nichols left this world to be with his heavenly father. He came into this world on January 3, 1928, born to Melvin Ray Nichols and to Viola Mae Nichols in Hopkins Co., Texas. Billy committed his life to Christ while still a young boy and was baptized in Caney Baptist Church. As he grew older he was ordained a Deacon in Alamo Heights Baptist Church in Port Lavaca. Billy worked in the oil fields of east Texas after graduating from high school at Pickton. He took a B.S. degree in Industrial Arts and Math and later a MED in School Administration. He began his career as a machinist in Dallas with Geophysical Service Inc., later known at Texas Instruments. A few years later, he became a high school basketball coach at Cumby, Texas. From there, he went to Pickton, TX as a high school principal and math teacher. He first came to Port Lavaca as an 8th grade teacher in 1954. He taught at Jefferson, Madison and finally Crockett Jr. High where he stayed many years. After this Billy went to Central Office as Director of Maintenance to close out his Educational career in 1987.

In February 5, 1950, Billy married Wanda R. Nichols. To this family was added: Susan Annette (Deceased); William Charles “Chuck” (Deceased; Dara Lynette; Kevin Nichols and wife Georgia; grandsons, Christopher Taylor and wife Candace; Dakota Taylor and Henry Russell Nichols; great-grandsons, Trenton Taylor and Trevor Taylor.

Billy was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Nichols, mother, Viola Nichols; sister, Hazel Ezell; children, Susan Annette and William Charles.

Survivors include: nieces; Barbara Romac (Hal), Patsy Bolton (Butch); Michael Ezell all of Sulphur Springs and Pickton. Other survivors include brother-in-law, Elmo Sullivan (Ruby); sister-in-laws, Alice Tyler (Roland) and Mary Jackson (Noel) and many more relatives and friends.

Billy had a love for the great outdoors. Wherever he lived, he left a legacy of Live Oaks, Roses, Fig trees, Pecan trees and many beautiful plants which he worked and cared for as long as he was physically able. Living on the golf course in Seguin allowed him to enjoy that hobby. He was able to fish and hunt near the Guadalupe River.

A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at the Richardson Colonial Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Port Lavaca. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Gardens Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Ronald Steigler, Dallas Douglas, John Shaw, Chris Taylor, Dakota Taylor, Geryl Taylor, Butch Bolton, Sam LaBita.
